Sword of the railway company operating the "PARIS-SCEAUX" line, without scabbard.
Fittings in cast brass, cylindrical handle in brown horn, crossguard with straight, rounded quillons; the body knot bears the inscription "LA LOI" on one side and "P * S" for "PARIS * SCEAUX" on the other. Tie missing. White blade with stains and traces of oxidation, double-edged with two fuller grooves, no maker’s mark or hallmark.
61 cm (Blade 48.5 cm).
(Wear and minor signs of use; uncommon sword; variant derived from the so-called 1838 model administrative swords (?), in fairly good condition).
Note: The "PARIS-SCEAUX" railway line was established on 21 February 1845 and was inaugurated on 7 June 1846. It was 37.8 km long and initially linked Place Denfert-Rochereau in Paris to the town of Sceaux.
