Description
France, Louis-Philippe (1830–1848). Infantry sabre known as a ‘briquet’, model AN XI for the National Guard. Bronze mount with 28 flutes. Single-bar guard, without markings or hallmarks. Curved blade with a hollow edge and flat back, and a small fuller near the back, with a small mottled grey patina; marked on the back ‘Manufacture Royale de Châtellerault Septembre 1832’ and numbered ‘2’ at the heel. Leather strap present. Black leather scabbard with two brass fittings, no visible markings or hallmarks; the pommel has a shield-shaped button and the tip is decorated with line engraving. Complete. 76 cm (blade 62.5 cm). (Signs of wear and tear, leather of the scabbard brittle, in fairly good condition).
