Light cavalry officer’s sabre, Model 1822, from the Manufacture de Klingenthal Coulaux aîné et Cie, reused by an officer of the Coëtquidan Military Academy for Officer Cadets during the Fifth Republic, in 1989.
Gilt cast brass mount (remnants) with two secondary branches decorated at their bases with palmettes; a domed, buttoned, beaded cap with a short tail edged with a garland of laurel leaves. Handle in brown horn with copper filigree. Guard plate ending in a beak adorned with a seven-branch palmette. Natural leather strap present. White blade, slightly curved, with a hollow edge and flat back, marked on the back ‘Manufacture de Klingenthal Coulaux ainé et Cie’ corresponding to production circa 1838–40, followed by ‘CE BOLMONT COETQUIDAN 1 7 89’. Hallmarks on the blade heel, partially legible. Steel scabbard, with two suspension rings and an asymmetrical tip. It comes with a small officer’s sword knot, a black cord with a slide and a tassel in passementerie with large gold spinach-seed beads.
