Model 1821 infantry officer’s sabre, made by ‘Manufacture de Klingenthal Coulaux aîné et Cie’, circa 1838.
Gilded cast brass mount (traces of gilding) with a small secondary branch, a cap with a raised rim and a domed rivet button, and a short tail edged with laurel leaves. Black horn tang with brass filigree. Arched joint ring with a central band chiselled with small flowers. Oval-shaped guard and curved quillon ending in a small flower and a series of small leaves. Hilt strap missing. Curved blade with a slight mottled grey patina, hollow-ground edge and flat back, marked "Manufacture de Klingenthal Coulaux ainé et Cie" and stamped on the heel with "G" in a circle and "B" under a crown, corresponding to the production period around 1838. Blackened leather scabbard with three gilt brass fittings (remnants of gilding) and two suspension rings.
