Model 1823 cavalry lance.
Shaft in blackened ash. Spearhead with a triangular cross-section (14 cm), with two asymmetrical steel shafts measuring 40.5 cm and 60 cm in length, each secured by five semi-domed-head screws for the shorter one and, for the longer one, four semi-domed-head screws, as well as three rectangular-shaped brackets for attaching the pennant. The lower end of the shaft is fitted with a steel ferrule with short asymmetrical struts 10 and 14 cm long. The distance between the outer end of the lower bracket and the middle bracket is 28.5 cm, and the distance between the outer end of the middle bracket and the upper bracket is 20.5 cm. All metal parts have a light grey patina and bear the manufacturer’s hallmarks "W" in a circle for Simon WIDEMAN, second-class inspector at Châtellerault, and "R" in cursive in a circle for Louis RAULIN, director of the Châtellerault Manufactory from 1830 to 1834.
