Description
Belgium, c. 1830. French Type 1823 cavalry lance. Shaft in blackened ash. Spearhead with a triangular cross-section (14 cm), with two asymmetrical steel cross-guards measuring 41 cm and 60 cm in length, each secured by six semi-domed-head screws for the shorter one and, for the longer one, five semi-domed-head screws, as well as three rounded rings for attaching the pennant. The lower end of the shaft is fitted with a steel ferrule with short asymmetrical arms 10 and 14 cm long. The distance between the outer end of the lower bracket and the middle bracket is 17.5 cm, and the distance between the outer end of the middle bracket and the upper bracket is 17.5 cm. All metal parts have a light grey patina and bear Belgian manufacturer’s hallmarks: a crowned ‘GD’ and a ‘T’ surmounted by a lion. Total length 285 cm. (Signs of wear and minor wear and tear; a few small screw holes on the shaft; in good condition).
