Description
France, Reign of Louis-Philippe (1830–1848). Officer’s percussion target pistol, marked “PONDEVAUX & JESSY à St ETIENNE”. Calibre approx. 18 mm. All parts oxidised with a rust-patina finish. Octagonal barrel with fine rifling, fitted with rear sight and front sight. The breech block is engraved with scrolls. Rear percussion lock engraved with a small floral design, signed "PONDEVAUX & JESSY A St ETIENNE", and a round-bodied hammer engraved in the same style. All screw heads are engraved. Walnut stock with steel caps engraved in the same style. Trigger under steel cut-out triggers, chiselled with a small matching decoration. Trigger guard missing. Functional mechanism with two clear cocking notches and no play. Inside of the barrel shows surface oxidation. Complete. 32 cm (barrels 17.5 cm). (wear and damage; the hammer has been previously repaired (the upper part reattached and rewelded) and requires servicing; in fairly good condition).
