Description
France, Second Empire (1852–1870). A rare small-sized Model 1831 sabre (a lighter version known as the Model 1855), intended for sailors in the navy. Fittings in cast brass with twenty-six flutes. Crossguard ending in quillons decorated with perforated discs and the body knot stamped with an anchor with rounded arms. White blade with slight traces of oxidation, double-edged with a central ridge, without maker’s mark or hallmark. Blackened leather scabbard with two brass fittings; the pommel features an oval-shaped button. 59 cm (blade 46 cm). (Signs of wear and minor accidents of use; in good condition).
