Description
France, Second Empire (1852–1870). 1831-style sabre, small model (lightweight version known as the 1855 model), for the Fire Brigade, without scabbard. Cast brass mount with twenty-six flutes. The crossguard is finished with quillons decorated with perforated discs for the Fire Brigade. Blade with a mottled grey patina and traces of rust spots, double-edged with a carp-tongue shape and a triangular flat at the heel, no maker’s mark. 62 cm (blade 48.5 cm). (Signs of wear and minor damage from use, requires cleaning, in fairly good condition).
