Description
France, Second Empire (1852–1870). Port Authority sword, without scabbard. Cast brass mount, the pommel sloping in the ‘Marengo’ style, a fluted dark horn tang, the crossguard with two ‘S’-shaped reverse quillons ending in knobs. Straight, flat-backed blade with a slight grey patina and traces of oxidation in places. No visible markings or armourer’s hallmarks. 74 cm (Blade 59.5 cm). (Signs of wear and minor damage from use; in good condition).
