Description
France, Second Empire (1852–1870) – Third Republic (1870–1940).. 1829 model mounted gunner’s officer’s sabre, unmarked and without scabbard. Cast brass mount decorated with laurel and palm friezes, filigree horn pommel. The cap has a short tail. The tie is missing. Curved blade, with a mottled grey patina, hollow-ground edge and flat back, unmarked (erased?) and stamped with a ‘G’ within a circle (possibly corresponding to the hallmarks of the ‘Coulaux à Klingenthal’ workshop?). 89 cm (blade 75 cm). (Wear and damage; filigree on the tang missing; in fairly good condition).
