Fancy officer’s sword of the Municipal Guard, without scabbard.
Gilt cast brass mountings, pommel with melon-shaped ribs on two levels, the joint arch grooved with a central ring. Fluted ebony tang and flattened crossguard terminating in a stylised acanthus leaf. Symmetrical, kidney-shaped hilt with a central decoration of an eagle perched on a thunderbolt, flanked by laurel branches. Woolen cord present. Beautiful three-edged blade, blued and gilded, engraved with military trophies and floral motifs in the third section, with some staining towards the point. Maker’s mark ‘SHF’ in a gilded cartouche at the heel.
