North Africa, 19th century.
Long flintlock saddle pistol, originally known as a ‘trade pistol’, of 18th-century European manufacture.
Calibre approx. 15 mm. All metal parts with a mottled grey patina. Smooth-bore round barrel with a thunderbolt hallmark. Round-bodied flintlock pan with a swan-neck hammer of round body. Fittings in cut-out cast brass. Moulded walnut stock with a long barrel and simulated rib. Cast brass cap with foliage decoration featuring long scrolls. Functional two-notch cocking mechanism. The inside of the barrel is clean.
52 cm (barrel 35 cm).
(Signs of wear and normal use. The muzzle is damaged. In fairly good condition).
