Light Cavalry officer’s sabre, model AN XI, manufactured by ‘Coulaux & Cie Klingenthal’ circa 1880–90.
Chasseur-style hilt in cast brass, originally gilded (remnants) and decorated with fillets, three-pronged guard and curved quillon. Oval pommel topped with an olive-shaped rivet and a long tail decorated with line engraving. The cap is engraved with a coat of arms featuring three scallop shells beneath a ducal crown. Brown filigree horn pommel. Long, shuttle-shaped lugs decorated with line engraving. Tie missing. Nickel-plated white blade, curved, with hollow edges and a flat back, marked ‘Coulaux & Cie Klingenthal’. Steel scabbard with a single suspension ring and an asymmetrical tip, oxidised with a rust-flower finish.
