Privately made Model 1896 cavalry officer’s sabre, without a maker’s mark.
Gilded bronze mount, in one piece, the secondary arms chiselled with friezes of stylised leaves and fruit. A flanged cap surmounted by a rivet-head dome and a short tail edged with laurel leaves. Spearhead adorned with a Gorgon’s head. Brown horn tang with triple filigree. Hilt strap missing. White blade with a hollow edge and flat back, without markings or hallmarks. Nickel-plated steel scabbard with slight traces of rust-like oxidation, featuring a suspension ring and symmetrical tip. It comes with its black cord hand strap and a gold-plated twisted wire tassel with large twists.
100 cm (blade 85.5 cm).
