Sword of a Veterinary Officer of the National Stud Farms, 1872 model, privately made.
Mounting in gilded and chiselled cast brass. Decorated inverted truncated cone pommel. Filigree brown horn tang. Kidney-shaped guard decorated with a horse’s head within a wreath of oak and laurel leaves flanked by ears of corn. The retractable half-guard of the Manceaux system, stamped "G M" within an oval with a marine anchor between the two letters. Scarlet wool hilt cord present. White double-edged blade with a lozenge-shaped cross-section and two fuller grooves on the first half, marked on the heel "Coulaux & cie" on one side, and "Klingenthal" on the other, with a "D" hallmark beneath a crown and a "B" beneath a crown. Blackened leather scabbard with a central back seam, two gilt brass fittings, the pommel button decorated with a helmet.
