Description
France, Third Republic (1870–1940). Standard-issue Model 1873 revolver from the St Étienne Arms Factory, 1878. Calibre 11 mm. 6-shot. Serial number ‘G 81748’. All metal parts with a light grey patina, stained in places. All parts bear the same serial number except for one replaced screw. Markings on the barrel: “Mle 1873” and on the frame: “Mre d’Armes de St Étienne”. The barrel is dated “S. 1878” and bears the inspection marks “M” in a circle for the director of the MAS (General Maignien, 1873–1882) and “J” in a circle for the chief inspector. Checkered walnut butt plates. Mechanism in good working order, single and double action with two distinct cocking notches and no play. Inside of the barrel is dirty with shallow scratches. Complete. 24 cm (barrel 11.5 cm). (wear and minor signs of use; screw on the frame above the stock replaced; fairly good condition).
