Model 1861 infantry officer’s dress sabre.
Nickel-plated steel mount, with a fairly wide single-branch guard featuring a curved quillon with a roller, a spoon-shaped pommel with a long tail and a prominent rivet button. Wooden handle with deep fluting, sheathed in shagreen with triple brass filigree. Slightly curved nickel-plated steel blade, with a hollow edge and flat back, without any maker’s mark or hallmark. Nickel-plated steel scabbard with two bands, one supporting a crossguard and the other a fixed suspension ring, with an asymmetrical tip. The scabbard is fitted with its suspension loops in brown leather lined with silver-coloured metallic braid and a green central piping.
101 cm (Blade 86.5 cm).
(Signs of wear and patina from age; sabre in its original condition, never part of a collection; small traces of oxidation on the nickel plating of the mountings and scabbard in places; scabbard slightly short; the end of the shorter suspension loop is damaged; fairly good condition).
