Description
Indo-Persian Empire, Qajar Dynasty (1789–1925). Kilij sabre, 19th century. Silver sheet metal mountings and finely striated local wood panels secured with four silver-tipped nails. The base of the mount is filigree-worked with silver chain links. Curved, flat blade with a light grey patina, a single cutting edge and a flat back. Wooden scabbard sheathed in black shagreen with three steel fittings, including two pommel knobs bearing suspension rings, and a long steel pommel decorated with engraved cross-hatch patterns. 93 cm (Blade 82 cm). (Signs of wear and age, damage and missing parts; the crossbar of the hilt, the knobs and the scabbard’s entry cap are missing. In the condition in which it was found).
