Japan, Meiji period (1868–1912). Ceremonial tantō-style sword, circa 1900. Wooden fittings covered in bone, carved with floral motifs and figures. Steel blade with a light grey patina and a copper habaki. The wooden scabbard is covered in bone and decorated in a matching style. 23.5 cm (blade 16 cm). (Signs of wear and patina from age; the scabbard’s entry ring is damaged; in fairly good condition).
