Description
France, Second World War
A colonial helmet belonging to a Free French soldier, made from a captured standard German tropical helmet.
Cork shell covered in sand-coloured cotton canvas that has been bleached. A silver-plated metal badge featuring the Cross of Lorraine and the Victory V has been attached to the left side. Feldgräu leather rim band. Red canvas inner lining and a feldgräu leather sweatband with the manufacturer’s logo embossed on it, and the marking ‘ORL’ in purple beneath the sweatband, dated 1942.
Feldgräu leather chin strap. The helmet comes with a pair of standard French model 1935 goggles. (Over time, the spongy rubber ‘foam’ protecting the goggles has stuck to the helmet). Worn.
(Signs of wear and age, a decent helmet, in fairly good condition).
