Description
Pierre Sulmon (1932–2008), large blue and gold glazed bisque dish, 31 cm, signed on the back
Born in 1932 in Roubaix, Pierre Sulmon was a French artist who graduated from the École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs in Paris (a pupil of Marc Saint-Saëns). A talented draughtsman and painter, he turned to sculpture as his career progressed – winning the Bourdelle Prize in 1967 – and worked with a variety of materials such as wax, polyurethanes and bronze. He likes to imbue his works with a personal and authentic character.
Passionate about art and beauty, he also trained at the School of Fine Arts and Architecture in Tourcoing and at the School of Fine Arts in Roubaix. He obtained a state diploma in interior design (Henri Matisse cohort). He subsequently taught at the Regional Schools of Fine Arts in Saint-Étienne, Nancy and Limoges.
He died in 2008 in Toulouse.
