Portrait of Charles VERNIER (1813-1892).
Rectangular oil on canvas with oval view signed and dated 1890 middle left. Stamped on the reverse Maison Alphonse GIROUX.
82 x 65 cm.
(minor restorations).
Presented in a 19th century wood and gilded stucco frame with rich leafy mouldings bearing an exhibition number 334 at the top.

Note: Charles VERNIER (1813-1892) was a French draughtsman, caricaturist and lithographer who trained in the studio of Jean-Auguste Dominique INGRES (1780-1867). For many years, a page was reserved for him in Le Charivari, a satirical newspaper of the time.
