LE PUY-EN-VELAY: A small chapel dedicated to the Black Madonna. The statuette, covered in gold-coloured paper and embellished with lace trim, is set amongst foliage, in front of a display of candles, within a vaulted niche against a chequered paper background, enclosed by a pane of glass.The piece is made of cardboard, glass, papier-mâché, plaster, paper, dried flowers, lace and fabric. A label inside bears the inscription ‘Notre-Dame du Puy, pray for us’. A 19th-century convent piece, 21.5 x 14 cm.
