Description
A silver jam pot of the second grade, openworked, repoussé and chiselled; the circular lid features a pinecone-shaped frieze accented with foliage, the rim adorned with a fine row of beads and small palmettes, the body featuring a frieze of mandorlas, spires and quatrefoils, with four winged Egyptian busts linking the body to the bowl. The whole rests on a square pedestal base. The interior is made of colourless crystal. Master silversmith: Jacob-Frédéric KIRSTEIN, admitted as a master in Strasbourg in 1795. Empire period, provincial, 1803–1809. H. 23 cm. Net weight: 427 g. (clasp needs tightening).
