NORWAY, first half of the 20th century. Commemorative spoon in 830/1000 silver. The handle is shaped like King Saint Olav of Norway and decorated on the reverse with geometric interlacing; the bowl depicting, on one side, the Virgin and Child surrounded by a scroll engraved with the pious inscription in Old Norse: ‘Hear my voice, help me, Mary, for eternity, protect me’; the other side depicting the crowned Saint Olav, clad in chain mail, holding his characteristic axe and slaying the dragon, with the Latin inscription ‘Pray for me, Saint Olav’. Length: 14 cm. Weight: 56 g.
