Description
18th-century French school. Carved ivory crucifix surmounted by the inscription ‘INRI’ within a scalloped cartouche. Mounted on a cross within a moulded, carved and gilded wooden frame decorated with fruit and foliage. Dimensions of the Christ figure: 28 x 17 x 4 cm. Overall dimensions: 74 x 46 x 6 cm. Total gross weight: 3,337 g. (cracks, minor imperfections and damage to the big toes). Object made wholly or partly of proboscidean ivory (Elephantidae spp. – Elephas maximus, Loxodonta africana or Loxodonta cyclotis), listed in Appendix I/A of CITES/EU. Current IUCN status: Elephas: Endangered, Loxodonta africana: Endangered, Loxodonta cyclotis: Critically Endangered. In accordance with the regulatory provisions in force within the European Union (Regulation (EU) No 2021/2280 of 16 December 2021), the item will be delivered to the purchaser together with its intra-Community certificate FR2603700018-K, issued on 30 July 2026 by the supervisory authority, accompanied by the expert report drawn up by Mr Pierre Grignon Dumoulin, a court-appointed expert at the Amiens Court of Appeal and an approved agent for ivory and biodiversity-derived materials.
