LEROY & FILS, Former Clockmakers to the King at the Palais Royal in Paris.
An officer’s table clock in silver-plated bronze with niello work and bevelled glass, the upper section adorned with a pivoting handle framing a skeletonised section of the mechanism; the dial decorated with a butterfly and a wading bird set amongst lush foliage; the circular bezel marked with Roman numerals for the hours; the alarm at six o’clock; the whole resting on a rectangular base. The mechanical movement, with key-winding, chime and repeater, is numbered 5761.
Signed on the reverse: ‘LEROY & FILS Anciens Horlogers du Roi, 114–115 Galerie de Valois, Palais Royal, Paris’.
