Description
A straight-sided clock case in so-called Boulle marquetry of tortoiseshell and brass, the upper section in the shape of a gendarme’s cap surmounted by a winged figure of Renown; the circular dial features blue hour markers in Roman numerals inscribed on white enamelled discs and is signed ‘MARTINOT’ in Paris. Ornamentation in chiselled and gilded bronze, including espagnolette handles in the form of figures, allegorical figures, acanthus leaves, fire pots, a serpent and decorative mouldings. The whole rests on four leaf-decorated spindle legs.
With key, stamp and pendulum.
Louis XIV style, Napoleon III period.
