Description
An imposing portico clock in alabaster and gilded bronze, the upper section in the form of an entablature decorated with friezes of ovules and denticles, surmounting a motif of applied foliage scrolls. The octagonal dial features a white enamelled bezel with black Roman numerals for the hours, signed ‘COUTARD à BORDEAUX’; the centre is guilloché and the rim is adorned with rosettes and volutes. The four Doric column-like uprights rest on a rectangular plinth decorated with hybrid winged lions on either side of an antique-style vase. A frieze of acanthus leaves forms a moulded cornice, and the whole rests on four flat feet.
Comes with key, hallmark and pendulum.
