Description
A set of 141 breast badges, known as ‘pucelles’, made of brass-plated, silver-plated and enamelled metal. These pieces were manufactured, in particular, by Arthus-Bertrand. The lot includes a fine series from the Versailles fire station. It also features some remarkable early examples, including an old piece from Troyes and an unusual early issue from Verdun in a vertical rectangular format. There are fine examples from Vendôme, Vence and Vertou. Overall condition is good, with normal signs of wear and tear. Many of the badges are glued to their backing. Provenance: The Albert Giraud Collection, considered to be the largest collection of fire brigade badges in France (formerly housed in the museum at Saint-Vincent-sur-Graon).
