Voluntary lot
Description
A collection of 141 breast badges, known as ‘pucelles’, made of brass-plated, silver-plated and enamelled metal. This lot stands out for the inclusion of badges from former French colonies and protectorates (including, notably, issues from Oran, Algiers, Douala and Dakar), as well as several notable designs from the Principality of Monaco. Notably, it includes a 19th-century piece, an antique badge from the Meuse department by the Parisian engraver and manufacturer A. Duseaux. Overall in good condition, with normal signs of wear and tear. Many badges are glued to their backing.
Provenance: The Albert Giraud Collection, considered to be the largest collection of fire brigade badges in France (formerly housed in the museum at Saint-Vincent-sur-Graon).
