Description
A set of 167 breast badges, known as ‘pucelles’, made of brass-plated, silver-plated and enamelled metal. This collection is notable for a substantial thematic series dedicated to Navy units, featuring numerous variations of the Marseille Naval Fire Brigade (BMPM), as well as badges from the centres in Cherbourg and Brest. There are also colonial issues from Indochina for the Saigon Naval Fire Brigade. Markings indicating the manufacturers are visible: Arthus-Bertrand, Drago, Ballard, Courtois and Segalen. Overall condition is good, with normal signs of wear and tear. Many of the badges are glued to their backing boards.
Provenance: The Albert Giraud Collection, considered to be the largest collection of fire service badges in France (formerly housed in the museum at Saint-Vincent-sur-Graon).
