Description
A set of 168 items comprising breast badges, known as ‘pucelles’, made of brass-plated, silver-plated and enamelled metal, as well as a 1933-model Air Force firefighter’s helmet badge (Adrian helmet). This lot stands out for its aviation theme, bringing together numerous badges from air force firefighters stationed at military air bases (BA, for example Châteaudun), as well as airport fire brigades (notably Aéroports de Paris). There are some unusual items, such as the rare ones linked to the Mururoa test site. The collection is rounded off by a fine series of municipal badges, including fine examples from Albi, Sarlat and Narbonne. Overall condition is good, with normal signs of wear and tear. Many of the badges are glued to their backing.
Provenance: The Albert Giraud Collection, considered to be the largest collection of fire service badges in France (formerly housed at the museum in Saint-Vincent-sur-Graon).
