Description
A set of 164 breast badges, known as ‘pucelles’, made of brass-plated, silver-plated and enamelled metal. This collection stands out for its wide range of badges dedicated to the Civil Protection Service and its specialist response units (divers, dog-handling teams, etc.). Rare and historic items include: a badge from the Medical Service’s motorised medical units dating from the First World War (1914–1918), badges from the European Organisation for Nuclear Research, and an old first-aid instructor’s certificate. The collection also includes fine prints from the National School of Civil Protection and is complemented by various municipal badges. Overall condition: good, with normal signs of wear and tear. Many badges are glued to their backing.
Provenance: The Albert Giraud Collection, considered to be the largest collection of fire service badges in France (formerly housed in the museum at Saint-Vincent-sur-Graon).
