Description
A set of 168 breast badges, known as ‘pucelles’, made of brass-plated, silver-plated and enamelled metal. This collection stands out for its unusual items relating to the security of institutions and businesses. It notably includes a series of badges from the Banque de France’s fire service, as well as a badge from the famous French fire extinguisher manufacturer Sicli. It also features a collection of badges from fire brigade marching bands, as well as a fine set tracing the variations of the Seine-et-Marne Departmental Fire Brigade Union (UDSP 77). Overall in good condition, with normal signs of wear and tear. Many of the badges are glued to their backing.
Provenance: The Albert Giraud Collection, considered to be the largest collection of fire service badges in France (formerly housed in the museum at Saint-Vincent-sur-Graon).
