Description
A set of 166 breast badges, known as ‘pucelles’, made of brass-plated, silver-plated and enamelled metal. This lot includes a wide variety of departmental fire service (SDIS) badges, as well as some fine examples from the overseas territories, notably including issues from Polynesia and the Antilles-Guyana. It also includes a substantial and attractive series dedicated to the Young Firefighters’ Sections (JSP), representing numerous French municipalities. Overall in good condition, with normal signs of wear and tear. Many badges are glued to their backing.
Provenance: The Albert Giraud Collection, considered to be the largest collection of fire service badges in France (formerly housed in the museum at Saint-Vincent-sur-Graon).
