Description
Sabre of an officer or non-commissioned officer of the Hussars. Dating from around the period of the Old Monarchy. Brass hilt with a smooth single branch and shuttle-shaped guard. Long-tailed pommel. The tang is covered in filigree leather. The curved, hollow-edged blade is engraved on its upper third with a hussar charging on horseback, the motto ‘Vivat Hussar’ and floral motifs. Leather scabbard with three brass fittings with scalloped edges (cap, central band and tail piece), fitted with two loop rings. Asymmetrical tip. Total length: 98.5 cm (97 cm without scabbard). Condition: signs of wear; blade stained and pitted; leather of the scabbard sun-bleached and cracked; slight knocks to the brass fittings.
