Description
Light cavalry officer’s sabre. Consulate – First Empire period.
Brass mountings. Three-pronged crossguard and smooth, shuttle-shaped pommels. The tang is covered in filigree leather and retains its red felt tie. Curved blade with hollow sides, decorated on its first third with a blue and gold design depicting musicians’ trophies, a radiant sun and foliage scrolls. Steel sheet scabbard with two brass fittings fitted with two loop rings.
Total length: 100 cm (97 cm without the scabbard).
Condition: signs of wear; the blued finish on the blade is slightly faded in places; traces of surface oxidation on the steel scabbard.
