LALYRE Adolphe, or LA LYRE, pseudonym of Adolphe LALIRE (1848–1933) – Stained-glass window designs for the church at Carteret (Manche) - Set of three colour drawings depicting two mermaids flanking a lyre, and a mermaid and a triton holding a conch shell. These three studies bear witness to the stained-glass window designed by LALYRE for the church at Carteret; they feature the theme of mermaids, a subject dear to the artist, who was nicknamed ‘the painter of mermaids’.
In 1872, LALYRE discovered the Cotentin region and had a villa built in Carteret, the Château des Sirènes. He also designed the stained-glass windows for the chancel of Saint Germain Church, which were destroyed in 1941
