MANUCE (Paul). Antiquitatum Romanarum. Liber de Legibus. Index rerum memorabilium. Venice, Aldus [Paul Manuce], 1557. In-4, [3] leaves, [1] blank leaf, LXXX leaves, [2] leaves. Brown half-basane, smooth spine (19th-century binding). Binding worn, scuffed. Early handwritten annotations beneath the Aldine anchor on the title page. A few light foxing spots and faint water stains. First edition of the tetralogy on antiquities by the printer and humanist Paul Manuce (1511–1574), the only volume published during his lifetime, bearing the fine Aldine mark on the title page. Renouard distinguishes it from a second edition in the same format published on the same date (Annales de l’Imprimerie des Alde, 1557, 18.)
