Description
Asia – NOÉ (Louis-Pantaléon-Jude-Amédée, Count of). Memoirs relating to the British expedition which set out from Bengal in 1800 to fight the Army of the Orient in Egypt. Paris, Imprimerie Royale, 1826. 8vo, half-cigar-coloured calf, smooth spine with gold thread, title in gold lettering (contemporary binding). First edition, illustrated with 2 engraved fold-out maps and 19 lithographic plates coloured by Langlumé. Most of these plates depict views, genre scenes and the costumes of sepoys, Brahmins from Ceylon and Bombay, and the costumes of Egyptian fellahs, Bedouin Arabs and Albanians. Top edge missing, a few scuffs and foxing, but otherwise a fine copy, enriched with an author’s autograph and a modern handwritten ex-libris from one of his descendants (Count Marc de Noé) to his nephew.
