Italy – QUADRI (Antonio) & MORETTI (Dionisio).
The Grand Canal of Venice. Venice, printed by Andreola, 1828. Oblong folio (26.5 x 41 cm), half-cub-coloured calf with corner pieces, smooth spine with decoration, title page with gilt lettering on the cover (19th-century binding).
12 pp. (including the title page and the 2 ff. of the dedication), a map of the Grand Canal and 47 plates depicting the entire Grand Canal, drawn and engraved by Dionisio Moretti and WATERCOLOURED with descriptions by Antonio Quadri, secretary to the Viceroy of the Lombard-Venetian Kingdom, Rainier Joseph of Habsburg-Lorraine (1783–1853), to whom the work is dedicated, and an ordinary member of the Veneto Ateneo.
Bound together with the following work by the same author: *La Piazza di San Marco in Venezia considerata come monumento d’arte e di storia*. Venice, printed by the Tipografia di Commercio, 1831. [1] f., 4–32 pp., [2] ff., 16 engraved and WATERCOLOURED plates (with gilding highlights in places) depicting views of St Mark’s Square.
Binding worn with split joints; otherwise a very good copy, the interior very well preserved, and the plates retaining their rich, fresh colours.
