PHAEDRUS & AESOP. Phaedri, Augusti Caesaris liberti, Fabularum Aesopiarum libri quinque; illustrated with continuous notes, and published with the complete observations of others by Johanne Laurentio Jcto. Amsterdam, Jansson, 1667. In-8, [32] leaves (including the engraved title page), 462 pp., [1] blank leaf and [102] leaves of index. Old ivory-coloured vellum, title and edition labels in green and red morocco. First quire slightly detached. Small brown ink stains on the edge, a few rare foxing spots or pinholes. A fine illustrated edition of the fables of Phaedrus and Aesop, published by Jean Laurent. The illustrations consist of a frontispiece by Chr. Hagens and 103 fine anonymous half-page intaglio engravings. ‘One must check whether the obscene plate on page 276 is present, as it has usually been torn out or damaged’ (Graesse, V, 252). It is indeed present in this copy, and in good condition, intact. A fine copy with engravings from a good print run.
