Paris, Delloye, [1838]. 8vo, in a romantic contemporary binding in black shagreen, richly decorated with a beautiful gilt plate on the covers and fine gilt decoration with a gilt title on the spine (Boutigny). Collected first edition, featuring a frontispiece and 45 fine steel engravings. This publication, in the style of Romantic keepsakes, brings together 45 portraits of female characters from Shakespeare’s works, engraved on steel after Meadows, Hayter, etc. The literary essays were written by 42 authors, including Philarète Chasles, Louise Colet, Casimir Delavigne, George Sand, etc. A few foxing spots; one plate has darkened.
