LA FONTAINE (Jean de). Tales and Short Stories in Verse. London, no publisher, no date (c. 1750). 2 volumes in one in-16 volume, in havana calfskin, plain decorated spine, title label, triple gilt fillet framing the covers, gilt edges (contemporary binding). Binding worn, head cap gnawed with losses, incipient tear at one jaw, corners slightly blunt. Edition adorned with an engraved allegorical frontispiece depicting La Fontaine seated at his desk writing, with three putti at his side holding an open volume (Aesop). “Complete edition of the fables, entirely similar to that of 1743.” Rochambeau (p. 567 no. 217.)
