LA FONTAINE (Jean de). Tales and Short Stories in Verse. A new edition, revised and expanded to include several tales by the same author, and a dissertation on the Mona Lisa. Amsterdam, Henry Desbordes (with the sphere), 1691. 2 volumes of [8] ff., 202–[2] pp., [4] ff., 203–[1] pp. Brown grained calfskin, decorated ribbed spine, red title label (contemporary binding). A small tear with a loss at the margin of the title-leaf of the first volume. A very rare edition, partly in its original form, augmented by five new tales in the second volume: *Le Florentin*, *Le Fleuve Scamandre*, *La Confidente sans le sçavoir*, *Le Remède* and *Les Aveux indiscrets* (the latter four had appeared in the works of Maucrois and La Fontaine, 1685). Walckenaer believes that this edition was printed clandestinely in France. (Rochambeau p. 513, no. 32.)
