With an introduction and notes by Alphonse Pauly [...] Paris, Alphonse Lemerre, 1868. 4 in-16 volumes with full margins, in uniform brown half-shagreen binding with corner pieces, spine with raised bands decorated in the 18th-century style, triple gilt fillet on the covers, gilt head, untrimmed, with wide margins (G. Corrion). Portrait of the author by Bracquemond, printed on China paper and reproduced as the frontispiece in the two volumes of the Fables. Printed in editions of 171 and 141 copies; no. 18 of the 116 on Turkey-Mill (laid) paper. Spines slightly sun-faded, a few tiny foxing spots. A fine copy.
