FÉNELON (François de Salignac de La Mothe). The Adventures of Telemachus. Paris, printed by the author, 1785. 2 vols. folio, marbled calfskin, decorated ribbed spine, title and volume number labels in green morocco, triple gilt fillet framing the covers with fleurons in the spandrels, interior lace, gilt edges (contemporary binding). Scuffed, small losses to one cap. The illustrations, from the first edition, consist of two frontispiece title pages, one engraved with a portrait of Fénelon and one engraved by Montulay (dated 1773), 72 engravings after Monnet, engraved by Tilliard, and 24 plates adorned with culs-de-lampe containing the tables of contents.
