Large 8vo, green half-shagreen with corner pieces, smooth spine finely decorated, gilt fillet on the covers, gilt head, original illustrated front cover preserved (bound by G. de Grutter). First edition of this remarkable work, superbly illustrated by Tony JOHANNOT with several vignettes within the text and 63 plates, including the frontispiece, all wood-engraved in the first print run. “This book, richly illustrated, is (…) a very fine example of the Romantic era in terms of its originality” (Carteret, III, p. 596).
